Upgrade from a Baofeng suggestions

Post by Mudslinger »

I have been running a Baofeng UV5S for the last few years for messing around and stuff, but the other day it died.

If I wanted to replace it with something a bit better what would be the next step up? I have seen Yaesu radios for around the £60 mark but they look a bit like a Baofeng in a different case, and they might not be much of an upgrade?

I would probably be willing to spend £100 or so, and the radio must be capable of being widebanded (listening on PMR ;))and have a proper S meter diplay rather than simply reading full scale when the squelch opens...

Many thanks

There is no such thing as a Fidelity 1000 which is too good to scrap.

Yes, just looked that up, it looks like a nice little set. Cannot seem to find new though, only the later FT65

I played with both. 60 feels better, hard to compare rx from a hand but was similar.

Excellent, I will see if I can track one down at a sensible price. :)
