Scrambling on 446mhz

Post by Naughtyboy331 »

Anyone know which radio is capable of scrambled transmission? and is it simple voice inversion. I heard this today quite strong to me in S. Yorks.

There are different inversion frequencies, so a rig with a single frequency won't guarantee you'll be able to hear them. I think there is software out there which can revert the voice based on any inversion frequency, I'm not sure though as I've never used it.

A number of them now have basic voice inversion, most available one will be the Radioddity R2.

I heard that about 10 miles away. Definitely weren't using 446 sets.

there are LOTS of 446 sets that support encryption. both legal and not so legal.

it is almost certainly a local lidl / aldi store (I forget which of the two) who
tend to use channel 3 for their staff headset comms - which are encrypted.
its fixed point inversion and dull as ditch-water to monitor

my own cobra branded sets support it

If you have a map of south wales to hand (e.g. maps.google.com)

I was some years ago driving between Shirenewton and Usk along
a hilltop ridge. my cobra set scanning the 8 channels on top of the dash
I heard my mate in Bulwark (Chepstow) call his missus
"Put the kettle on love, just coming back with doggy now"

Recognizing both voices I picked up the handset and chimed in
"no sugar in mine please Joan"

"Whose that ?"
"Hiya its just me - wont be calling in as Im heading towards Usk"

"Where are you?"my mate asked

I told him
"On the back road between Shirenewton and Usk , high ground, heading away
from you"

My mate replied
"b***r off - where are you really?"

I repeated my location , "seriously?" he replied amazed

"Were in the Motorhome , just stopped to walk the dog, were in a lay-by on dartmoor
about 2 and-a-bit miles from the prison"

that was a cobra set used in car to a telcom tw-1000 used outdoors handheld - if theres a path
10miles / no issue

Yes I suppose it is possible in the right conditions, however my location is very low and they were giving positions a good distance away.
