PMR446 Base Antenna recommendations

Post by MiXiN »

I've been looking around for an Antenna for 446 Mhz & have stumbled upon the Sirio CX 440.

Is this any good or best avoided?

If this isn't any good or if anyone knows of any good performance alternatives, please chime in with your input.

I bought a short white stick with ground plane on Ebay which is really a simple quarter wave inside, and it actually works pretty well - I'd certainly buy another if I needed one.

I've used generic 2/70 colinears with OK results so far. The difference in wavelength between 440 and 446 is almost nothing anyway. It's something like 2cm difference IIRC.

If your just using 446 then a simple dipole cut to the wavelength will do.

Don't have the coax lead to long and have an RF choke.

Why not use the amateur bands, 2 meters and 70cms simplex there not really used anymore.
