I was going to bid on this myself mainly for the mfj tuner but forgot about it.
Did you get it and figure out what it was used for (I think the listing mentioned possible Alien contact device LOL) and what the glass tube was , I was curious myself.

Looking at the way the radio is not that accessible, I think its all about the discharge tube - making pretty patterns in response to twiddling the matching.
Its probably labelled as a UFO communicator or ghost communicator

Yes i only bought it for the tuner.
After getting it i still have no idea what it was built for.
The psu in it is 70amp rack-mount type i call them but this one is very well made and voltage is very stable.
The uniden radio transmits on unknown frequency's but it stops my sds200e scanner on a frequency used by Stena shipping.
As to the glass tube with the copper backing ???????????????.
Actually the copper came in handy today for soldiering together and making a earthing strap.
Whoever made it spent a lot of time doing it as it took me a good hour to dismantle it and i didn't undo all the screws with my pry bar.
You never know the original owner might see this post one day and put us right.

A wild guess, something like a ground radar? (To look inside the ground and find hidden things)
One part of the tube is transmitting, the other part receives the reflections?

You are just showing a box with parts, make some more photos of the control panel and a more or less functional diagram of what is connected to what and how especially the tube, to what and how is it connected?

Lots of kit to generate High Voltage & lots of RF, then going to a vacuum tube. Looks like it might strike a plasma and generate UV light, depending on what the gas is inside?

I think The glass tube was used as a mediator for transmitting quality data over the device.
