Sw antenna for worldwide radio

Post by original45 »

hope this is the right place for this but I'd like a little info.
Bought a old school worldwide radio 11band.

Been looking at wire antennas to plug in to increase receive . I had found a few references to using a 75 ohm antenna .
But what about long wires ,any particular length, orientation and how the he'll do you if needed make a wire antenna 75 ohm, I guess I could use tv coax but surely is this ott .
Looking for best advise to get best out of it please.
Thanks

Long wires are more or less omnidirectional. But a long wire is multi wavelengths long for the frequency you want to listen to.

A cheap random wire as long as you can get will work well - the impedance isn't too much of an issue on receive (a tuner will improve things slightly) - just connect it anywhere you can and get it outside as high as possible.

If you want to spend some money then an active loop will be better. Cheap Chinese one like the MLA-30 (ebay) are getting fairly good reviews - or if you want to spend even more money get a Wellbrook Loop.
