Not picking any hf up on my Yaesu frg100.

Help please, picked up a Yaesu frg100 yesterday. At the moment i only have a discone. I can't pick any hf up just normal radio. Should the discone pick anything up?

probably not. just get a long length of wire longer the better and connect it to the radio.

Discone is not the right antenna. Assuming you have it connected to the 50 ohm SO239 and that is selected as the input, disconnect the plug so only the centre pin is connected, you may pick a few things up, but as suggested, you really need a long wire connected to the 500 ohm (HI Z) input

Made a longwire up from an old extension lead and still can't pick the shanwick volmet up.

Yeah am flooded with intefirence its high up the signal meter.
