're HF radio and SW listening

Post by Deejay1 »

Hi All,
I have been offered an Alinc o Dx9 HF radio.
I understand the other functions the Alinc o has to offer, but what about the SW capabilities. I want to use it for SW listening as well. A vertical antenna would be used but what would be the best one ? What are the legal requirements ? TIA.

It should make a good SWL receiver. It covers from 130 kHz to 30 MHz and can receive AM SSB FM CW. Your vertical antenna may be OK or if you have a lot of local noise you might consider a loop like the Wellbrook (receive only, don't transmit up it!).
If you are not licensed for transmitting, it's a good idea to unplug the mic and keep it safe somewhere.
