If they resort to rtty or cw a handy wee piece of kit would be a cw/rtty decoder!

CW is Morse code, continuous wave. RTTY is radio teletype, which sounds a little like fast Morse code, but uses two different tones and you can google Baudot if you want the history. Teleprinters use it. Do you remember the old football results on Saturdays at full time on BBC, where you saw them as they appeared on the studio teleprinter. Back then mechanical, but in the 80s we started to see people building decoders. I had one on a commodore VIC20 that on my HF radio decoded all sorts of stuff sent in the clear. It's still being used. Speed wise, I can type faster than it used to send! There was a bit of a craze for buying old creed teleprinters and getting them going on the air. They also printed out what you typed on paper tape, that you could then feed back in to send the message to somebody else! Amazing things!

Unfortunaly nothing of interest.
I thought with the fleet rumoured to be heading towards that destination area I though some unusual/interesting coms might have been heard.
