New Radio - President George II

So, friend of the forum Delboy has reported this week that rumours of a new radio from President have been all-but confirmed following the release of a picture puzzle published in a recent President catalogue. When solved, the image revealed what appears to be a new radio from President, this time a President George II.

With the retirement of the Grant II Premium, there is a gap in the portfolio for this radio to appear for sure. With a similar look and feel to a Grant, but incorporating a number of design features from other popular President (and non-President) radios it certainly is an interesting radio.

Speculation is that the electronics in the box are very similar to the G2P, Linc2 and McKinley sets, with (hopefully) a few improvements "under the hood". Again, like it's current stablemates its likely the radio will likely have an export mode with higher power and freq coverage, though details are scant at this stage as to whether it will be punted as a multi-norm "CB" radio or as a 10m HAM set.

What do we think? Nice little addition to the shack? What features would you like to see in this new radio and what would make you order one?

Back in 2004 Simon (TM001) wrote a review on the Original George, will the new one compare?

well assuming they base it on their current radios and their current version levels then at least its a solid base to come from we can hope!

To me it just looks the same as the rest of them . If you've already got a Lincoln or McKinley , then why would you change ?

Anyway . They're still pumping stuff out , which I suppose is a good thing .

So what feature would make you rush out and buy one? Theoretically speaking :-)

To be honest , probably none Craig . I did buy a GRANT II when they came out , but I sold it shortly after . I bought an AT6666 last year , which I use when I'm home . I also just swapped an old Jopix 2000 for a Lincoln II+ , but I haven't had a chance to try it yet . I'm doing some basic electronics work at the moment , so the older radios suit me more .

Hopefully, it won't have that silly security code malarky to contend with this time.

I'll still be sticking with my Amstrad anyway ;)

A socond antenna socket for a noise cancelling antenna, with the noise cancelling circuit.
Bands programmable by uploading a spreadsheet.
DIN mounting with stereo MP3 playback and built-in FM/DAB broadcast receiver.
Support for bluetooth headset.
Spread spectrum mode (to help with noise reduction when talking to a similar radio) .
Optional bluetooth waterfall display.

Let's just hope this new version doesn't slurry the name of the original George. We all know how bad the first Grant/Lincoln 2's were.
Never, ever, ever....bloody anything ever!

Far too many radio's to list here. But I do own a legal one...

Wouldn't it be great if they kept the same George chassis and fascia, but just updated the internals and added some features? I think that would fly off the shelves

It's a mighty fine looking radio that's for sure. Years ahead of it's time too.

Possibly the nicest looking President CB radio ever?
