Comparison..Dynascan At5555 & CRT SS9900
Anyone got a comparison of these two radios.. Not keen on the ‘clicky’ clarifier on the 5555 . I Haven't had one of these type of radios since an earlier version of the 6900N.. I know the 9900 has the be benefit of 12m...and a ‘smooth’ clarifier , I had the earlier version of this too at one point but no 12m...Did like it but the display is quite small... is it really worth the extra £60 quid or so more... ?

Personally i would prefer the At5555.
Had the ss9900 and didn't like the many menus and how easy it was to mess up the frequency programming.
Sold the ss9900 on after 2 weeks along with the programming cable i had to buy to correct the frequency's lol.

I have both. A 2019 SS6900N and a brand new Dynascan AT5555.
I'm one of the few who don't mind the "clicky" clarifier. In fact I find it rather helpful for tuning into the odd frequencies some DX stations use.
Both are exceptional radio's for the money. Feature rich and when set up very easy to use (My AT5555 came pre - programmed in export mode from Jabber Products).
They both work very well. Both are the V6. The only real difference is the colour of the channel/frequency display. Certainly nothing to set them apart performance wise. Well worth £135.

Never, ever, ever....bloody anything ever!
Far too many radio's to list here. But I do own a legal one...

The SS6900N is that not different to the SS9900.

Thanks for your views on the two radios.... I see there is indeed an extra saving if buy direct from Jabber’... Just really wondering if the price difference to the 9900 is actually also shown in the performance...?astradyne wrote: ↑30 Mar 2021, 09:01 I have both. No difference whatsoever. Both of equally good performance. Well worth the investment.JibberJabber wrote: ↑30 Mar 2021, 10:32Thanks for your views on the two radios.... You should also consider the SS7900 (AT-5555n)
Similar main board to the 6900 but huge display and smooth clarifier. Marginally more expensive than the 6900.
I have examples of all three here and the 7900 is the only one permanently on my bench.

I have a V3 9900 & it works well. It's compact compared to the 6900 or 7900, can in theory run a bit more power output, although like most of these, excessive TX time on FM/AM will cook the finals if power is at max.JibberJabber wrote: ↑31 Mar 2021, 13:12 Really ... Thanks for your input.

My McKinley is different in operation & needs to be expanded to match the export coverage of the others.
They all work well enough, they all have their quirks but the McKinley is considerably more expensive than the 6900 & 7900, so on balance, price, performance, styling, it's the 7900 that tends to remain on my bench.

The 9900 is a good radio & you'd be very happy with it, should you choose that. I don't see that many discussions on the 7900, so I thought I'd throw that one in the ring.
Good luck with your selection.

The control itself is a mechanical rotary click type. That mod just removes the mute when the clarifier is operated.narfedwards wrote: ↑01 Apr 2021, 11:07 easy mod on 5555 to get rid of clarifier click...use the hi cut switch...mods are on web
