Plt splatter and qrm eliminators..

Post by Raverrst »

Hi all, in recent days iv been suffering with a increase in what I believe to be Plt splatter on 11meters, iv done the run the radio off a battery and shut the mains off etc but the problem still persists 😔 have any of you guys been able to eradicate or at least reduce this type of interference with a QRm eliminator box or any other method?? I have installed 10 ferrite beads to my feed line again this has resulted in no real reduction..

Thanks for any help with this..

I am currently testing a QRM Eliminator I recently purchased. I have been able to listen two stations on ssb on 11 to determine if the small decrease I seem to have achieved actually relates to a reduction in QRM or just in overall signal strength. I have shared a short video

Thanks for the reply, yes iv had alook through your thread, it does seem you have managed to reduce your static qrm your getting👍 My qrm seem to be slightly different in regards type, I’m getting s5 to s7 of splatter type noise, very much like a bad ignition system on a car, sometimes this includes a data type noise also, so I’m presuming it’s a Wi-fi data exstender type unit causing a problem? I would definitely invest in a x phase if I thought it could reduce my type qrm..

as I have just updated on the other thread, these do not work with CB radios. You need the PTT Send which HF radios have, this tells the QRM Eliminator to switch out and bypass when the radio is on TX. CB Radios don;t have this. You could cobble together some sort of trigger to do this, but you'd have to remember to press it every time you TX otherwise your device will be damaged. Not exactly practical.

you may be better off trying a second hand device first or loaning one from another station or maybe even your local HAM radio club if you are a member, this would let you try before buying your own

They work but if you are getting QRM from more then one thing it won't get rid of it all. Best to take out the more strongest but testing where that is coming from. The AUX antenna is important as to where you place it.

Very true... also length. Getting the aux antenna right is critical for best results. On most days I can get my noise level down to S2/S3 without attenuating my main antenna very much. My aux antenna is a 2.5m length of 22mm copper pipe, with an SO239 fixed to one end, mounted vertically 3m off the ground. This works for me. But takes some experimenting. The goal is to receive the bad "noise" more on the aux antenna than the main one, then its easier to phase out more.

Not all QRM eliminators are useful for CB's, This one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/284415897570
has an auto sensing relay for PTT, so it can be used with any CB.

If you have mains noise/hum, you'd need to filter that to your radio equipment.
