CRT 9900 really impressed!
Just got me a version 4 of the crt 9900 and have to say it’s surprised me, I have a few radios from Lincoln mk1 to a SS360 and Jackson 5 band mk1 and all tuned by master nick but this little crt 9900 has some great ears on it.
Fm is clear as a bell, done a few tests with locals and some distance and all good audio reports. Tested USB and have to say for the money it’s a cracking little radio, either that or I have a real good one.
I guess the test will be if it’s still working in 20 years time!
So far so good though, no glitches at all. Impressed I am.

I think anyone who has one likes them. Sure there are a few little niggles - like the lack of a true VFO mode, and if you're a ham there's the repeater offset issue on V4s - but it really is a very capable radios. Much nicer to use too than the 6900 / 5555.

I haven't tried the repeater offset's as yet, and yes i guess a true VFO would be nice but as a comparison to what were regarded top of the line radio's in the 80's 90's this little Crt 9900 works just as well, if not better. I also tried a lincoln 2 V1 and V3 also a jackson 2 and that was a sign president just churn out expensive junk now and rely on there previous laurels regarding 10 meter radio's.
very impressed with the CRT 9900 so far, much better than expectations i will say.

I have tried the repeater offset, but only because I saw a thread where people said theirs wasn't working. I have a V2 and it works fine, which is ironic because I only use CB.

It's the software version, plus I've had it since V2 came out.

Re: CRT 9900 really impressed!
I have a 9900 v4 and I am pretty happy with it. The radio does get rather hot so I installed a 80mm silent Gelid fan on the heat sink
and this keeps the radio reassuringly cool. I felt this radio runs hot even using SSB, this goes doubly so f you use FM a lot.
A couple of things I find annoying are the slight pause (on the display digits) when you press the big knob to select frequency digits and also
that you cannot reduce SSB power output using the RF power knob, it seems only to pull back FM (maybe AM ? I don't use that much) RF power. I tend to just set the mic gain down to 26 or so which reduces your power output by reducing your modulation level.
Other than that, quite happy and I get good audio reports so far.

Re: CRT 9900 really impressed!
I am not familiar with how it sounded in previous versions when changing/scrolling channels fast. I cannot say I have noticed this as a problem
even if it is so. There maybe a very small time duration mute but is so it is so small I barely even notice it. I will check this next time I am out.
