On the crt ss 9900 the swr says 01.7 on all the channels but its getting too dark to get it down any further.
Will have another go tomorrow.

Yes its been done before = but most folk take their car out the garage first ;)
Plenty are talking worldwide on 27.555 usb,
Some are too far up their own @rse to admit it,
Many happen to know otherwise dx-ing test free,
Showing a complete lack of respect for the law.

Perfectionism maybe? I know once it gets below 2 you generally get out OK but even so, if you're running barefoot every little helps & personally the lower I can get my SWR the better because I know I'm working to the best of my abilities.

I did the opposite back in about '85 with a silver rod on a pole next to my Mk1 Escort on the Lickey Hills on the Birmingham/Bromsgrove border.

You can do it your way, but using a magmount for homebase will probably only give you a few miles range on say FM unless you live on the top of a hill. You'll lose a tiny bit of signal if the cable's too long as well.

Personally, I'd stick to a homebase aerial higher up.

I've always been told to get the swr as low as you can and that's what i try to do until you realise it's the best you're going to get.
The car has a flat battery so its staying in the garage, its my sons and he's using mine so i stuck the magmount on top of the car until he buys a new battery.
Found out the cable has a short so i'm going to sort that out in the morning, hopefully its a plug or it's going to be new cable. I want to put an antenna outside but its putting the parts out slowly so the wife sees them and gets use to them.
Put a bracket on the washing line pole, then the day after a pole on the bracket, next comes the cb antenna :D
Took the antenna off the car and put it on top of the garage roof as its mostly metal sheets with four that let light through and its picking people up and their signal is a lot stronger than it was on the car.
Wife said what the hell is the antenna doing on the roof? i thought it was on the car? i said the roof has more metal than the car so receives better.
She said are you trying to bull me? i said no, i can show you if you want on the computer, she said no it's ok, her eyes said you're bull crapping me again and i'm not falling for it a second time :D
So hopefully the cable will be sorted and the antenna will be up and hopefully the wife won't be too annoyed :D

You're right about that brother

I don't know why she hates the cb though? because if it wasn't for the cb we would never have met!
