I would go with the Dynascan one, it isn't as if a "legal" radio will still be legal once the wire has been cut anyway.

Ah you see, the assumption you made was that I would be modding the radio..... which would be wrong.

to assume is to make an ass of u and me ;)

Also I did some digging on the OFCOM website last night regarding CB. I was unable to find an specific reference to data modes so as it stands, as long as the radio is Type-approved/legal then using USB and modulating that with data doesn't appear to be illegal, meaning (in theory) 27.245 for JS8Call is allowable. I will concede that only data modes on the EU band will come under that interpretation, so it still rules out (legal) data on the accepted frequencies of 27.500 (PSK31), 27.635 (ROS) and 27.700 (SSTV) as those freqs are either not allowed for use or are for FM only on adjacent frequencies in the UK.

Happy to report Simon, Jabber products (formerly Radio Zing) has these radios available for under £210 new if anyone is interested. Standard or Export mode. Contact him direct through Facebook as I am unsure if he is listing them on eBay for the same price.

Excellent service from Jabber Products.

The Jabba Man Can.... YESCANDO!

Cant wait to have a play with this radio. Typical I have to actually go into the office today, as I am normally home based these days!

First impressions, very compact radio for what it does. Also leaves the question of where do I put my President sticker? 😂

Are you a member of an amateur radio club? If so stick it up at the clubhouse

Next time I visit the RSGB at Bletchley I’ll find somewhere prominent to place it 😂

Got it on the bench and doing a job. Seems to register quite a high noise floor vs the other radios, but could just be the way the signal meter is set out of the box.

Will have a proper play tomorrow.

I have attached a version of the manual that's all English, saves you scrolling through half the languages of Europe before you get what you need.

Installed and setup for datamodes.... job done :-)

Like the radio, seems to report a high noise floor though and I hate the clunk you get when you change channels, in fact is outright annoying and offensive to my ears.

Without modification it can do the following band configurations though....

Yeah . I bought a AT-6666 from him a year or so ago . Very good service . The only complaint I had was that the radio wasn't double boxed when sent .

Yeah mine wasn;t either, but came in a large padded envelope. Survived well enough. I suppose that's what insurance is for. Advise buyers to refuse damaged packages or take photos and document for a claim later perhaps. I always try to double box when sending, but not always practical sadly :-(

Another thing to note is that this radio gets VERY hot even with standard Power. I have not export-mod'd mine and I have been playing with Vox settings tonight, meaning keying up on FM for a few mins at a time whilst I change settings, the radio got that hot I couldn't hold it in my hands. Quite disconcerting considering what little power it should be throwing out.....

Had the pleasure of catching Delboy on the radio today and we did a few comparisons between our McKinleys and the out-of-the-box audio is quite remarkably low vs other radios.

I think I will turn up the audio inside the radio, I don't believe that will void the warranty. I had bought a power mic which has helped, but I still think it sounds quite narrow.

You need one of these Craig, it'll solve all your audio problems:
