The radio however wasn't all that great. It used to interfere with peoples TV's.
Well TBH the 2000 used a superb Cybernet board in it (Rotel, York,Harvard ect).
So certainly not a bad radio......infact a very "Good" radio :D

Well it wasn't a "sidebander" and that made it a "$hitter", no one had ever heard of a fidelity 2000FM, even 10 years ago people didn't know what it was.

I do suspect my woes were more to do with my set up, rather than just the radio itself. None of us knew what swr was back then and the PSU used to hum.

Now people interested in radio seem much better educated as to what is and what was a radio. back then it was either a sidebander or it wasn't but back then there was always someone to talk to.

TVI in a block of flats is a nightmare. The TV antenna was communal, nearby and i suspect had a booster amplifier installed so that the Signal could be shared with each flat. I interfered with peoples TV's throughout the block of flats and should i use my radio when the news or soaps were on my door would get knocked on by the neighbours who to be honest were very understanding. One once threatened to report me to the Dti and my dad made me get a licence so that i was legit.

Happy times....

The radio certainly is a classic and is better built than many of the newer radios!

Just feel the quality of the channel change for example!

I think we will be pleasantly surprised when we hear the on-air tests!
It certainly is......I intend breaking the apparant myth of this radio with the next part review. :o
I hope I haven't upset too many proud owners. :o
It's more of a joke about the amount of rough ar@es who drilled holes in radios and this one even with a bolt touching the PCB is still working.
Also I can confirm by the look of it , it has never had ANY repairs done.
Not bad for 33 years of use by God know's who!! :D

My very first Sapphire X2000 that I bought on 2nd November 1981 uses the same board, it gave me 1000s of hours of pleasure and has NEVER had the casings removed :o
I still have it and in good condition still in it's box with receipt.
If there was just one radio I wouldn't want to loose this would be the one.
So trust me I haven't got an issue with any of these radios really as I actually think the RX is Great (no pun intended).

So I am maybe the one of the few one owner (certainly no one will of bought one prior to myself) Great chassis operators

So as you can see I'm hardly biased :D

“Courtrooms are battlegrounds where society’s bullies and the oppressed clash, where the victims of abusers seek recompense, and where parties cheated by scalawags seek retribution. Because of the high stakes involved, the parties are not always honest, and justice depends upon an array of factors including the prevailing case precedent, the skills of the legal advocates, and the merits of each party’s claims and counterclaims.”

(The sweet little Fidelity 1000 is a classic in disguise).
For instance if someone rolled up on your drive way with a 1968 Porsche 911.That had every nut and bolt loosened and perhaps lost, and crap smeared all over the windows and seats. Would you Shout out loud . "Can someone please remove this pile of S***e"...Or would your tone be lowered if the owner said its yours for a tenner. Those that can't stand the stench would miss out. Those that pay the tenner are rewarded with a gem .With a bit of spit and polish, and Replace IF filters with crystal rather than ceramic.Peak the whole Rx/Tx .Simple mod can remove bass tone on receiver amplifier, and turn it into a very clear mid range punchy sounding receiver. The same can be done on Tx side of things simple band pass filter and this set sounds good.
I love getting a quart out of a pint pot.

Anyway joking aside Hope you find this amusing. ;)

Apart from the folk like me,who were using a Fidelity 2000 in the early '80's.

The people who had never heard of a Fidelity 2000 10 year ago ? = couldn't have been on the C.B in the UK back in the early 1980's imo.

Still have my brothers Fidelity 2000,that was his first legal fm set, that he got out my nanas catalogue when they were first released in the UK (winter edition maybe) = the serial no. is 11116366.

Not the best 40 ch UKFM CB radio or as some say a $hitter.
Plenty are talking worldwide on 27.555 usb,
Some are too far up their own @rse to admit it,
Many happen to know otherwise dx-ing test free,
Showing a complete lack of respect for the law.

I love my mint, boxed 1000...and my 2000... and my 2001...and my original first ever radio, my lovely 3000 homebase :)

Okay, so they're a bit " Marmite", but I'm also a bit mental.

Nah..it's a bit manky.

I forgot to bid on a boxed, new, unused Commtel version last week on ebay. I put the initial £25 starting bid in. It only fetched £26 so I was gutted as I'd been prepared to bid £26.01 on it.
