I've only just seen this. Great job.

Re: Cobra 148 fake?
Cheers mate. It does look nice sat there with the other few sidebanders I've got. It's not a minter as there are a couple of tiny dinks on the sharp-edged surround, but it's pretty good nevertheless.
At some point I'm going to try and "make" an original mic' and instruction manual for it too.
I won't be able to make an original-looking Cobra box though...unless I borrow my daughter's felt-tip pens and an empty Cornflakes box

Re: Cobra 148 fake?
I have a Superstar 2000 AM/FM/SSB (5 bands of 40)
I have a Cobra 148 GTL-B (looks just like a Superstar 2000) That is AM/SSB Stock 50 channels with the tone switch rerouted to another stock crystal set on the board but that whole section is not in the schematics.
These units look like the Lafayette 1800 but that has a mix of 50 and 40 channels depending on the band with UK FM on Band F starting @ channel 10 with clarifier at 9 o'clock.
No doubt all the same Cybernet boards.
I am thinking all of these and that DX unit were all made during the Uniden/Cobra split.

That's a weird radio. If it was in this country I'd probably bid on it just to have a look-see.cb4ever104 wrote: ↑28 Jun 2021, 08:23 There's one of those for sale here , but they're not really my thing .

Re: Cobra 148 fake?
Well, it seems I spoke to quickly before popping the covers off. So, I did.
The chrome 148GTL-B has 60 channels. Coverage from 26.315-26.995 (skips A channels) on (LO) via 19.890MHz crystal in (undocumented) X3 slot and a unpopulated X4 section I assume for UK FM above 27.605MHz (I think x4 20.330 MHz and would have to repurpose the NB/ANL 3 position switch and an unlocked clarifier for offset)
1x60 / 2x60 ch - PTBM122DOX
There are two versions of Superstar 2000 version as I mentioned
4x50 ch - PTBM125A4X
5x40 ch - PTBM131A4X
Lafayette 1800 IS the same.
-----
A list I found of boards vs models :
PTBM125A4X/PTBM131A4X
Colt 1600DX, 2000DX, HyGain 8795 (V), Lafayette 1800, Midland 7001 export, Pacific 160, Superstar 2000, Tristar 777
PCMA001S
Argus 5000, Cobra 148GTL-DX (fake), Colt 2400, Falcon 2000, Lafayette 2400FM, Mongoose 2000, Nato 2000, Palomar 2400, 5000, Starfire DX, Superstar 2200, Thunder 2000, Tristar 797, 848
PTBM133A4X
Ham International Concorde III, Jumbo III, Multimode III
PTBM121D4X
Cobra GTL150, Colt 320FM, 320DX, 1200DX, Excalibur, Ham International Concorde II, HyGain 2795, 2795DX, Intek 1200FM, Lafayette HB870AFS, Tristar 747
Anyway : here are some pictures of the two units I have inside and out. Do like these Cybernet Cobras though double trace boards make a service nightmare !
