Well i hope to have my Adams Decals in the next few days from the States.

From NEW OWNER OF DEBS DECALS

I put away an old face plate I got from Ashtec ages ago, its biggest problem as you can see from the Pics is it had a thumb wheel for a channel knob/Frequency entry of sorts. So what epoxy or whatever would be useful here to fill the Square leaving a circular hole or maybe i could re drill a hole afterwards? i don't know and i have never done this kind of thing ever before.

So step 1. Fill the square hole to provide a circular hole for the channel change.

Ok. Epoxy some sheet ally to the back and drill a hole in it for the selector shaft. You can fill the hole with epoxy or car body filler as its easier to work with. Plenty of primer rubbed between each coat. Paint decal on and laquer it then. Thats how id go about it anyways

Nice subtle change of Sig By the way :)

So yeah I get the epoxy has to be against something smooth (Like Aluminium sheet) that it wont adhere too, so fill the Square then Drill through wood epoxy wood sandwich as such or nice clean ally sandwich?

The Facia is not too bad itself other than the square hole but I think I'll rub it down anyway, you mention 800m wet is that the pad stuff comes in pads as such?

Ok primer if I'm going to do a top job, what primer should I be using? I may end up doing 2 of these so a big can going to do 2 or should I be buying something else?

Primer just one coat?

Lets leave the colour and the lacquer till later ;)

The wet and dry youll get in a motorfactors. Any primer will do thats intended for a car. Id give it three coats of primer rubbed between each coat. Three coats of paint dont rub between coats on the paint. And three of the clear coat. After the final coat of lacquer goes on and its tacky bang it in the oven at about 80 degrees for 20 minutes just to make sure all the moisture is gone. Hard part of painting this time of the year with rattle cans. The paint just loves to absorb the moisture in the air. The ally is just something for you to fill against and id have it drilled before you stick it in place and test fit the bezel to make sure. Car filler will be the best to fill that as jts the most invisible. But I reckon the channel change knob will cover most of it. As yer slapping a decal over the top it doesn't need to be perfik either. Take your time doing it and don't rush it. Thats the key. The edges of ghe bezel are where you need to spend your time as tge paint here will be visible. Fill any gouges or deep scratches with epoxy and rub em down before you prime. Three or four days from start to finish in the evenings after work. ..

Yep no bother Dougie. Just take your time. And remember keep the can moving across the bezel about 6 inches away from it. Dont stop or it will run on you. The laquer is the tricky bit, but ill guide ya through it.

Have you thought about putting a red lens where your square hole is, like on a puma/five star? You could back light it and have a real one off Adams. Just a thought.
