Quiet 12v fan for kl203 amp ?

Post by gmham »

Anyone give me a link to a suitable fan to fit to the top of my little Kl203p ? Bought one fitted it and found it’s just too noisy ! Don’t really want to add any extras to slow it down etc so will just try pick up a quieter version.
Anyone ?

I use 120mm “uphere” fans on 503’s etc dead quiet

From Amazon

They might do a smaller one for 203

Try a 12V PC fan on 5V. It'll run slower and quieter, and it might just be enough to keep everything cool. I use one on my main PSU, as it runs all the time it stops the PSU getting hot instead of having to cool it down.

Faster a fan spins the more noise they make. I find a decent quality 120mm fan spinning around 1150rpm is a good balance between cooling and noise. Noctua fans are very quiet but not cheap.

Agreed I too used smaller fans at reduced voltage but latter discovered a larger fan was far far quieter

Yes smaller fans have to spin faster to be effective hence more noise, bigger the fan less rotation needed. Other factors can add noise though such as blade design / geometry, bearing type, if blowing air through something or onto something. But overall its a either about cooling efficiency or noise.
