I have the Sirio 1/2 antenna (the one without GPk) and its great (and very sturdy) until it rains! I taped the hell out of it and it still got up to 1.9/2.0 SWR on a very rainy day. Plus the tuning method isn't the best. After sometime in the air the top section will slide down. The 2mm hex screw is useless, I had to rig a small clamp to keep it from moving.

I was going to place this in a tree, but not now, going to an imax2k or a cheap antron 99. Need something that I can set and not worry about it for years.

Use plenty decent electrical insulation tape on the joins, this will stop the section above from sliding into the one below.

I usually tape about 50 - 75 mm above and below each join.

White tape blends in better on aluminium/fibreglass than black tape.

The A-99 and the Imax sections just screw together, and a bit of decent tape should stop the sections becoming loose/slack,due to swaying
about/vibrating in the wind.

I would avoid a 1/2 wave antenna and just get a 5/8th wave antenna.

Glad you like it, but it is just a poor performing end-fed vertical.
I don't like to repeat myself, I explained it in some other thread why it is a bad antenna.

Eham reviews are just morning coffee entertainment, nothing else.
That is worth reading and understanding: https://www.w8ji.com/end-fed_vertical.htm#IMAX

I've noticed a few newer Imax's have suffered the same issue as the cheap, used one I bought a little while back. The fibreglass tubing is splitting down the whole length. There was a 12 month old one on ebay a few weeks back that'd got exactly the same problem and others have mentioned it on the net too. Whether this is because the tubing on the newer ones is thinner, cheaper materials or because of manufacturing changes I don't know, but fibreglass aerials don't seem to be as good as they used to be. Also, the gel-coat surface wears off them very quickly too, leading to very small, sharp, skin-penetrating fibreglass splinters sticking out/shedding.

Mine'll do until it falls apart (I repaired it, photo's are on here somewhere if you search), but it's not very high up at all anyway, so it should hopefully last me a few years.

Buy a Lemm 108 ;)

I had an Imax up for years and years, Took a hell of a battering in the storms and I worked the world on it. Worked for me.

Most people who have have A99 type antennas think they are great. Up to the point that they replace them with a decent 5/8 wave...

There is no such thing as a Fidelity 1000 which is too good to scrap.

Replaced it with an inverted V dipole in the attic. Works DX just as well and no one can see it. I only use wire dipoles these days. They cost almost nothing to build and they are hard to see also I dont have to worry about the storms
