Friendship on the Air Award
The RSGB is delighted to launch a new Award that is designed to celebrate the friendship of amateur radio over the airwaves.
https://rsgb.org/main/operating/amateur ... air-award/
Radio amateurs are encouraged to exchange the four-letter identifier of their club and accumulate points for each qualifying QSO. Through this you can gain the award.
However, the main purpose of the award is to contact other people in a friendly and non-competitive way, connecting with them rather than simply making a quick QSO and moving on. If you’re not a club member but are a member of the RSGB, you can use the RSGB identifier “RSGB”.
There will be monthly and annual awards for individuals, clubs and the highest-scoring club in each region. The points system is simply an encouragement to get on the air, represent your club and have a chat with radio amateurs across the airwaves.
The award is part of the RSGB-NHS ‘Get on the air to care’ campaign which was created at the start of the pandemic. Its aim has been to support radio amateurs living in social isolation, promote mental wellbeing and raise the profile of amateur radio in the mainstream media to help people looking for something to do during lockdown. https://rsgb.org/main/get-on-the-air-to-care/
We hope that the Friendship on the Air award will continue to support the radio amateur community as restrictions lift over the coming months.

Just because it's not your thing doesn't mean you get the right to crap all over it. Please be more respectful to other posters.

Re: Friendship on the Air Award
Get your facts straight and learn some comprehension.
The post had nothing to do with crapping over a poster, who was only the messenger in this case.
If this is the best the Rsgb can offer the world, especially when considering the price of membership
then is time to give up.
They are an insult to our collective intelligence.

Re: Friendship on the Air Award
I really don't appreciate your tone. The facts are clear, you posted a reply with just four words "More namby pamby b0llox". No matter your obvious feelings on the subject, the poster obviously cares enough about it to share it, so for you to show such disdain for it displays a lack of respect for that poster. You then go on to have a go at me for asking you to be more respectful. These are the facts.
Now, there's no need to get into a spitting match over this, so we'll note your comments and all move along. Thanks.

But 'making contacts in a friendly and non-competitive way' is what AR was always about, surely? And we didn't need to swap badge numbers to prove it either. I know contesting seems to running a bit out of control these days, but encouraging people to swap numbers even for casual chats seems a bit strong.

Yup, its not my cup of tea either but it seems someone at RSGB has decided contests are a good way of driving activity on the bands and getting people active and interested.Andy wrote: ↑20 Apr 2021, 10:05 But 'making contacts in a friendly and non-competitive way' is what AR was always about, surely? You cant please everyone sadly, but I am sure that some will enjoy this. Each to their own.

Re: Friendship on the Air Award
On a lighter note, back in the olde days we made friends by just calling CQ, and discovering each others mutual interests.
Those who we had no interest with got a basic qso and we were grateful
that we had at least another one for the log book.
Now we seem to need awards just to stimulate the act of some simple cq calls :-)

Re: Friendship on the Air Award
Because they lump all the speech modes together under the name 'phone'. It's more convenient than saying 'SSB, FM or AM'. It's short for 'telephony'.
