The FT-840 is a nice radio. I see that the Transmit range has also been expanded so it will cover just about anything you want on the HF side of things.
They get some VERY good reviews over on the eHam website - take a look at: http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/129

If the price is right I would say .. go for it! :)

An original Icom IC-706 can be modified to have wideband coverage (including CB bands) by the simple removal of a surface mount component. This requires either unsoldering the SMT component (a nightmare) or a screwdriver and a steady hand for 'popping' it off the board!

If you want to listen to CB, why not just buy a cb? you can pickup them up for sweeties these days, and your not missing out on much lol

I'd say without doubt both those radios you linked to on ebay were superior to the TS120, but they also come at a price! i was watching both those myself, if only i had the money...lol

Whats wrong with the TS? seems like a decent radio to me, and you got a good price on it!

There's nothing i can think of, im pretty sure it covers all the amateur HF bands! if it doesn't cover CB, your not really missing out on much really.

I guess newer receivers might be more sensitive? and usually full of features most people never use lol

Suppose if you have the money to spend then get a newer radio im just not sure it's worth the big spend when the TS covers everything allready, especially if you're only using it for listening.

That said i'd love the likes of the 2 sets you posted in here, not cheap though :(
