Following a chat I was having with an old friend in the week it got me thinking to back in the day and the first time I was left at home while parents cleared off to the sun for a week, this would have been in the early 80s. Within hours of them leaving we'd got my Commant 5/8 down and lifted it another 6M higher using a scaffold pole coupler and a long bit of rope thrown over the house roof
A friend brought round what I remember to be a 120 channel AM/FM rig that looked very similar to at York 863, so black front with all the knobs and switches but so far I've not found anything that fits the bill. I know memory can play tricks over time but I'm sure I remember this one correctly so can anyone suggest what it may have been?
What I do remember is hooking it up to a little BRL35 and having lots of fun working Germany on Lows for the week the parents were away. No SSB, no massive power and no local QRM just lots of friendly contacts
120ch York 863 lookalike?

There was one - I've seen pictures of it but I was never really interested. It's not a Hygain, and it's not the Colt 1600DX. I can't remember what it is though.

Colt 870
http://www.radiopics.com/CB%20Radio/USA ... lt_870.htm
Hy-Com was 40 AM
http://www.radiopics.com/CB%20Radio/USA ... B-4000.htm
Both are more than likely the same radios, Cybernet PLL02A like the Puma [PTBM106/094?}
The Colt 870 is quite possibly a Hy-Com under the sticker but with an FM board and dual crystal oscillator board added, Then Colt [and other} stickers stuck over the top

You might be referring to the Hy-Comm 4000 radios etc.

Re: 120ch York 863 lookalike?
That could very well be it, any recollection of stickers is long gone so maybe it wasn't AM/FM 120ch out of the box?
Rigpix have a cleaner looking front but it may have been photoshopped
http://www.rigpix.com/cbfreeband/colt_870.htm
The speaker switch on radiopics has been moved and rebadged from the Hycom and is blank on the Rigpix version. All very odd!
Thanks for the replies though and possibly solving a long held mystery.

The Colt 870 isn't actually a Colt it's just a sticker..
it is in fact a Hycom..
but that said the bezel was used on loads of radios, Superstars, Nordlands (of they go searching) Cobras (yup they did), Colts (real ones) and others..
