Talking of people who are too lazy to wipe over sh**-covered radios:

Do they do it to hide blemishes underneath? Maybe...maybe not.

I always remove the knobs when I get a radio .. Clean them in warm slightly soapy water with an old toothbrush ... Always have an unused paintbrush by the side of my radios to keep them tidy...
I bought a load of fine tip cotton buds a while back from Chi-na... To get into those little nooks and crannies..

Servisol Foam Cleanser 30.
Spray it on and watch the gunk run off.
Great for nicotine as well

Afterwards, you could coat the cases and front in a silicone spray or infused car dashboard wipes if you want a glossy sheen to your radios. This method is sometimes used when polishing a turd to put on ebay.
Here's an example of an added glossy coating, but it's not too bad turd-wise:

That stuff works well, but personally I hate the smell of it.

There is no such thing as a Fidelity 1000 which is too good to scrap.

Best thing to get nicotine off is diluted truckwash.
I used to use it all the time for cleaning out the hardened gunk and varnish inside engine blocks, it just runs off.
Just be aware it can get a bit chewey on alloy parts if left too long tho, better to do lots of little washes and rinse off well in between.
