I reckon a respray & relettering job (or simply a decal nowadays) would make it look a likkle iddy biddy bit nicer. I know it would be like rolling a sticky, fresh turd in glitter, but it couldn't get much worse! ;)

Well it has arrived and it wasn't working with some rattly bits inside.

On further investigation I found a Fuse and a empty fuse holder and 5 nuts inside for no reason.

That comfirms my suspicions it was a Super 4e then because of the green display, as the serial plates nicely on show.

Funny they left the cases on inside though. Removing them would've helped with cooling and less weight.

Never opened mine up yet, but I did scrounge a Yuasa rechargeable battery off some sparky's that were swapping some alarm base units a couple of years ago, so I could hopefully change the one inside mine. Thought it would be nice to get it back to fully working condition so it's properly portable. It looks a bit slimmer than that one but I'm sure it'd do the job being more modern tech-wise.

Thanks for sharing Dave, hope you can get it running without too much messing. If there's any need for pictures of mine's guts, let me know mate ;)

Forgot to add the battery.

I plugged my set in and tried to charge the battery but after 3 hours it did charge but lasted about 10 seconds.

If you have the spare time to open yours up, then please do.

Ps I have had a look on eBay and replacement batteries are cheap enough.

That's really interesting to see, I didn't expect the maxcom to be inside like that I'd imagined the board + controls to be mounted to the westwood chassis.

Don't clean it too vigorously as the screen-printed lettering will possibly flake off. Don't use stainless steel cleaner on it either as that will melt through the lettering in seconds!

The main question is, did the satchel/carry-case turn out to be useable? I saw it looked a bit "splayed" to one side, as if the stitching had failed somewhat, but it could've just been an illusion.

The satchel/case is a bit splayed but most of it is made of very thick leather with press studs on the top and bottom of the case suggesting that it's had a front cover on it too.

My question to you is.

Dose yours have D ring's on it for a shoulder strap?

I could get some photos of my case if you want.

Dave did you want to borrow my case so that you can make a replacement?

Mine's never had a case mate, it just would've been nice to get one, regardless of its cobdition, but the miserable mare wouldn't fold it up send it in the post lol.

Here's a couple of pic's of mine below.

You can see the little "clips" that the spring-loaded car mounting bracket would've gripped onto. Not that anyone ever fitted in their car I bet though!

I got an original mic' for it a couple of years back which was a lovely find on ebay.

As you can see it thick bits of leather for protection.

I think those metal clips on the side of the rig act as a wedge to keep the rig in the case.

PS dose yours have a number stamped on the rear of the rig
