:) I remember these being advertised in the CB mags of the time
first time I have ever seen one on that auction site though and an authentic piece of cb radio history that is very rare indeed

I can't find an awful lot about them on the web, I do remember them from the pre or early legal days when I think Practical Wireless or one of the other electronics mags reviewed them. The battery pack switch was what jogged my memory.

I seeme to remember it used one of the Motorola PLLs but 30 years...

It was a production radio, not a kit...that was possibly the Ranger 6 you're thinking of. I've got one of these monstrosities. Weighs a ton, has a lead-acid battery inside (will be dead) and is a Maxcom 4e inside ;)

So did anyone on here win the bidding? It wasn't me (got car tax to fork out for this month) and I don't think it was Lambrettadave...

If the winner's on here and doesn't want the leather satchel then let me know as I'd buy that ;)

Not a pretty radio by all means and i wouldnt like have been seen carrying that about in the 80's, Im betting its a Maxon type board in there looking at the Cobra 21/19x knobs and meter, The seller says its AM but with a CB 27/81 stamp on the front ?, Hes going to make about £10 on the postage too £18 with collect+ my butt!.

If you'd have carried that around in the 80's you'd have looked like Arnold Swartzkopftneggerdigger after a few weeks 'cause they weigh a ton with the In-built lead-acid battery! Either that or your shoulder would have had a deep groove in it and you'd have had to try to not walk in circles as it pulled one side of you down by 12inches ;)

I've called my own PT2 an ugly monstrosity on here before now. Anyone who thinks they looks nice is the kinda person who'd find my sister attractive!!! ;)

I'd need an SLR camera with an ultra-wide angle lens, and you lot'd need Panoramic-sized screens, let alone wide-screen ;) as for her face.... :)
