Listening in Glasgow east

Post by Chris_sdr »

Hi everyone,

I’m over in the Stepps area towards the east of the city. Recently purchased an SDRPlay RSPdx. I’d really appreciate local wisdom on what I might be in range of picking up as I still need to purchase a VHF/UHF antenna.

I’m interested in the digital systems around 460Mhz as I’ve never had a go a decoding them. I’m not sure if I’ll be in range of the systems around the city though - would appreciate your thoughts? The Fort is close by encrypted from what I read on this forum.

Also, recommendations on an antenna, should I go for a wideband discone or something more specialised for parts of the spectrum that are likely to be reachable? Finally, anything else you would recommend I have on my list of things to explore that we can receive in this part of the world?

I got a Wellbrook mag loop for the HF bands. Having played about with that over the last couple weeks, while albeit fun, I think my interest is in local stuff rather than the far flung foreign stations.

Really appreciate the advice before I fork out more cash on equipment! Happy to spend a bit in a decent antenna if you’d be kind enough to make a recommendation.

Thanks

Chris
