446.09375 / 233.6Hz, or if you like it this way, 446 channel 8, subtone 38.
I'm not sure how much they are on as I live too far away to hear them.

National Coastwatch have a number of VHF Marine assignments, including:LeakyFeeder wrote:Any ideas of the freqs?

The WTR doesn't show specific freqs for some hair-brained reason, but you can extract the info by recursive searching.

What's the deal with these folk then?
Are they like the EmCom wannabes, charging about acting all important with pie juice in their beards, or do they actually do worthwhile work?
Never really heard about them before, so is a genuine question...

Blimey, probably full of spooks then. Clearly not just another RAYNET!Coastwatch Scotland is an active partner in the UK Governments National Counter Terrorism strategy, project KRAKEN
I don't want to make a fool of myself here: I'm not from Dunbar but Google maps can't find a Granton located anywhere near there. Anyone know for certain which coasts these people are watching?
Perhaps you could write in and let Coastwatch know if so.

Re: Coastwatch Irvine
good luck to these guys or any other voluntary service.
would hope they have some basic training eg first aid and are properly vetted ie disclosure check.
its like eveything else sometimes people feel theres no need for a certain thing until they are seen in action and thats when the need becomes real.
good luck chaps.

Re: Coastwatch Irvine
Waw was surprised to see my picture in that last post. First of all not sure why they have put it as Granton on the website but i am in charge of the Edinburgh unit. My unit has just started but there are others around Scotland that are more established. Here is a article that STV recently did
http://edinburgh.stv.tv/articles/270360 ... ches-safe/
My unit are not completely connected to the Irvine one in the above photos. I am also a fully trained first aider i also have a enhanced disclosure and have the backing of local council and emergency services.

Re: Coastwatch Irvine
Coastwatch Irvine only have a facebook page, they intend to watch the coast from Troon to Stevenston based in the old Pilot House. The head of the Irvine unit is ex Coastguard and they have other ex RNLI members. They already have about a dozen in Irvine who are at least marine vhf radio and first aid trained.
They had an article printed in a local paper here a couple of weeks ago, it didn't go online.

They have had one meeting with Kraken officers according to their page, it hardly makes them paid up members.

Wow! Haha, small world! I didn't see that coming either!
Thanks for the link elliotg, when I read it I suddenly was certain I had read at least part of that article before somewhere... but ages ago. Have you been covered before as I notice the article is only dated a few days ago?
Fair play to you though, it does sound like a worthwhile endeavour on the whole but lines like that 'project Kraken active partner' humdinger can help to create a certain impression if you know what I mean.
I guess you must have some contact with the folks that set up that website. If so, you might want to suggest to them that they update their map as showing Edinburgh / Granton as being round at Dunbar really doesn't do them any favours given what they do...
Sorry, I don't mean to take the pish really - I hope it works out for you. Good luck!
