hi all
seen loftus fire brigade at a house near mine so grabed the scanner and nothing the scanner was stopping on 457.1875 but no audio the officer had a yellow handheld and was using it just woundering is it because there paramedics and use tetra, firelink

457.1875 should be fire channel 4 simplex FM, so no idea why you weren't getting any audio.

TETRA Airwave uses 380–385 mobile and 390–395 base.
It's extremely difficult to scan for and detect the mobile freqs as the radio only transmits in 1 out of 4 very short time segments and your scanner just isn't designed to spot that.
Best success I have had is using WFM mode, but it is unreliable, and of course only tells you that something is transmitting, not what.

So I very much doubt you picking capturing a TETRA signal.

Last time my scanner had a hit on that (some weeks ago) all i heard was some bleeps then data signals then silence then more bleeps, at the same time i was picking up voice on 457.0375, later found out there had been a house fire near by and BA sets had been used so i was wondering if they were using 457.1875 for the sets for something.

If anyone does have frequencies for the gritters I would be interested to know. They wouldn't be on 456.6500 (Middlesbrough Council) or 166.1875 (Stockton Council) would they?

most of the fire brigade have now went over to firelink which is like tetra all you will get some times is a tone

hi all
been talking to a paramedic today and ask about the fire brigade going to ambulance calls he told me there stopping it costs too much to run.so will they go back to uhf handies for on scene? god knows

Thats good news kath, it is ridiculous the amount of money they cost to use. I hope the same thing happens around here, may give me some more hope of my scanner not being made totally redundant on bonfire nights.

Got the shock of my life at the weekend, sat sunday afternoon watching a dvd listening to the scanner when i hears a knock on the door, goes to the door to find two fire officers with clipboards anyway as i am talking to them my scanner and there handhelds burst into life lol luckly i dont think they heard, they were in the area doing door to door fire safety checks! i dint invite them in.
had there appliance sat outisde with a drive in walst the others did door to door they were useing 457.0375.

and as far as I know most brigades use DMR now
