The Fidelity CB 1000 really is crap !
I recently started using CB radio again after finding one of my old radios ( a Fildelity cb1000) in a cupboard and wandering if it still worked. I have two CB's but only one with a mike so hence the use of the Fidelity. Having heard that anything HF is pretty unusable due to noise ( I've only been using the VHF and UHF ham bands very occasionally over the last 10 years or so) I accepted the high noise level at home so took the radio out in the car. This improved the situation but it was still pretty bad. I decided to get the other radio working and as I had no suitable mike I ended up buying a cheap dynamic coffin mike from Thunderpole. I order to make sure it was working I quickly set up the radio at home on the super bent wire dipole I have in the attic and noticed the noise level was zero with no strange electronic related noises. I put out a call and Neil (in Bridgnorth immediately came back to me (about 5 to 7 miles away) Audio quality from the radio was superb with no heterodyne from anything else in the home. Now you may ask what was this super high quality radio which blew the Fidelity away it was this, which I'm sure you will agree is still not the best radio money can buy but how bad is the Fidelity if this thing is such an improvement ?

I would be very careful slagging off the mighty Fidelity 1000 on here. They are much loved by all the hardcore CB'ers

The Commtron 40F and similar Maxon boarded radios do have very good Transmit audio.

There is no such thing as a Fidelity 1000 which is too good to scrap.

Get one of the Gecol or Eurosonic versions with the RF gain control. They are even better as all the RF gain seems to do if adjust the signal meter reading.
Plus they are a bit more upmarket.

Nick also has a soft spot for Jesans, especially the white one with the marine channels.
If anyone has one that they could send to him I am sure that he would be delighted.
