Uniden 3600 v Whistler trx 1
I've finally nailed my search down to the above two. One of my main potential interests is dxing amateur 70cm DMR repeaters amongst other things. Which of these radio's have the greater sensitivity? Also which one offer's the best selectivity? I'd like to be able to listen adjacent frequencies on the amateur bands without bleed over. Also am I right in thinking the trx1 covers more digital modes out of the box. Thanks in advance.

I'll give it a miss then. I'm considering either the TRX models or breaking the bank and going for the SDS100 . This is been sold for around £650 at Martin Lynch however that does include pre programming of DMR which strangely isn't stock like the TRX.

The final question is about simulcast. It seems the Americans have issues with it and therefore often choose the Uniden because it can cope with this. As I'm not a scanning expert I don't know what this really means but is this a reason for spending more money on the Uniden in this country? Thanks.

The TRX1 and 3600 perform similarly in my experience. The TRX1 is more sensitive, especially for DMR simplex signals. But the 3600 is more selective. Don't worry about simulcast....it's not relevant to the UK. Overall I'd say the TRX1 is better at scanning [known] frequencies but the 3600 is better for searching out new frequencies. My personal preference is the 3600.

Thanks for the info it will help me make up my mind. I really like the look of the Uniden SDS 100e as well.

Is the 3600s selectivity greatly superior? Can it separate 12.5 khz amateur radio repeaters? Cheers.

When compared to the TRX1, I'd say the 3600 selectivity is slightly better. Overall they are not massively different, and each has unique features I'd like to see in the other. Both cope with 12.5khz spacing just fine, they can be a bit hit and miss with 6.25khz spacing though depending on received signal strength.

Re: Uniden 3600 v Whistler trx 1
After starting this thread I changed my mind and opted for the Uniden SDS 200. As this is a base scanner that I'll use in my flat can anybody recommend a wide band antenna that can be used indoors that doesn't take up too much space but will improve reception from the included whip? Alternatively will the supplied aerial be good enough? Cheers!
