CB Shops from back in the day

For those in the north east of England remember Ian Fisher communications in the market place at Stanhope ??.

John Doyle CB, 1st at Stockhams corner Neath in South Wales then moved to Windsor road. Used to have some good deals there & John was always up for a chat or hosting a meet.
Just never let him try to repair a rig, to be fair though I used to get a lot of repair work from John & he never quibbled about the bill. Sadly the shop closed some years back and John went off to the big CB shack in the sky.

I used to go to fisher's alot and I got some good stuff off him as he would knock off money if you asked.
Ian used to live near to me so during winter I used to ask him if the road's were clear for me.
Such a gentleman.
His handle was red salmon as he used to go fishing near me

There used to be a couple of shops near me which sold CB stuff in the early 1990's when I first got on air.

We had Witney Audio which sold a few bits from Tandy including realistic CB's and Scanners

There is also a shop in a Nearby Village called Long Hanborough called the cycle shop and general store. They still have a few radios in there.

Tandy were alright for some bits, but their UK radios were pricey. I got a drum of RG213 cheap from the one in Newcastle when they were closing down though.

Also for cables and plugs and that I used to use Super Tech in the Metro Centre, they also did some radios from time to time. They still have a shop in South Shields actually.

Yes still there Craig but last time I went in it was like junk from AliExpress , next time I get to shields I will have a look in.
They used to have a stall on south shields as well.

Gough s used to sell CB radios and antennas as well.
I can remember seeing in there window a Moonraker majestic which I have not seen another one in years

Nothing really worth buying unfortunately, and a bit on the expensive side.

Things like a Midland 78 (the version before the multistandard came along) for sale at £120

Yep, they were a bit on the expensive side back in the day but there wasn't the internet to compete with, only the likes of other sellers in the CB mags that did mail order.

Yes Ian was a lovely guy to talk to ( I loved his modified York 863 behind the counter) but he was also a true salesman, he could sell you anything. You’d come out the shop completely skint and feel grateful that he sold you a pack of rolos and a bottle of water when you actually came in for coax and pl 259s

I remember the year well ,, It was early in 1979, and I wanted a CB and the place I bought one from was down in Cheltenham called the Breaker's Yard. It cost me around £80 plus an Aerial called a K27 great aerial ( NOT a DV27 ) I lived in Warwick so made the trip down there to buy it, You went into the shop paid the money then walked down the road and the Guy got the Radio out of the boot of a car.. The radio which I still have was a President Veep 40 ch with AM and FM on it and yes I still use CB Radio. A couple of years later and I worked in a CB shop part-time the shop was in Leamington Spa Warwickshire, and it was called " Toads 20 "

Are there any places in London that sell CB or HAM gear? I would think there must be some places down in Tottenham Court Road but haven't been there in ages! It's the same with Satellite shops... they used to be everywhere but now no where to be found.

He was a great salesman, he sold just about everything.
I took a mic for repair there once and told me he had a damaged one so took the parts out and put them in my old mic and charged me 12 quid and that was year's ago not even Tandy's was that bad.
PS he used to be the chairman of the weardale breaker's club
