Westland 707 FM Power Regulator Mod

Post by Phuture »

FM Power Regulator

Remove mode switch and flip it over
There’s a yellow then white/red then a link to an orange wire
Cut the link to the orange move the white\red to the orange
Then link the yellow to where the white/red came off.
The other side of the orange has a link DON'T remove that side of link.
Just wondering, what does the above mod resolve in the original unmodified Westland 707? Are there problems with the 707's output power on FM straight out of the box?

Thanks

I think the Westland runs FM power flat out. Quite often this will lead to the output stage eventually going up in smoke. Reducing the FM power level down to the AM carrier level stops this from happening.

So the problem happens even when the FM output power is set to 4W, not whatever the maximum achievable output power can be set at? How is the output power overload possible if set lower, or is the overload affecting other parts of the circuit where the current level is set elsewhere?

No, on the Westland FM runs at the SSB power limit I think. The mod is to take the power down to 4W (or the AM power).
