Just an update to say that I now have all the necessary components (I think) , and the usb programmer . I'm in the middle of some other jobs just now , but I should be able to continue this project in 2 to 3 weeks . More to follow ......

I tip my hat to you guys that do this stuff, it's well out of my comfort zone and skillset, but this is an interesting thread to follow and I for one am learning stuff.
I look forward to the next installment.
I just hope that vile new member who was escorted to the nearest exit door by MrWeetabix didn't put lbcomms off of this forum.

Just wait until you are clear and have a few hours spare to learn new stuff, especially if you have never done things like serial device programming before. I'll explain the concepts and then go through it step by step when you are ready...cb4ever104 wrote:I'm in the middle of some other jobs just now , but I should be able to continue this project in 2 to 3 weeks

No idea what skill level you are at with electronics and computers, but if you are comfortable with basic electronics (such as ohms law calculations), soldering, and basic radio repairs then moving into the PIC and AVR worlds is straightforward enough if you do it step by step.Admiral wrote:it's well out of my comfort zone and skillset, but this is an interesting thread to follow and I for one am learning stuff
Start off with a micro, a couple of switches (for inputs), and a couple of LEDs (output indicators).
Code it to turn the LEDs on and off in different ways, such as switch off = LED off, one switch on = LED on, and both switches on = LED flashing.
Then - work your way up from there.
Not at all, that was tame compared to some of the stuff he put up elsewhere (such as CBT and AVRF). Now we are getting the odd report in the last few days he's started on-air on the local SSB call channel with comments far from complimentary, such as "f^t dyk3 fem1n^z1", guess he wasn't too happy, but I've heard plenty worse from truck driversI just hope that vile new member who was escorted to the nearest exit door by MrWeetabix didn't put lbcomms off of this forum.

Now where was I with this ??
Seriously . I should have some free time over the weekend , so the plan is to finish building the board , and get it programmed . Once that's done then I'll see about when I get it fitted to the radio .
More to follow .......

This was/is an amazing read. Now it feels like I am waiting for the next episode, and I just cant wait until it "airs" . hehe.
Very nice explanation lbcomms and sweet pictures.
Good luck with the finish cb4ever104, you`ve inspired me to consider trying this myself some day.. I think.. If I got the guts that is.

Re: I need someone to make me a one off pic.
Well , I've finished building the board . The 5V regulator was tested before connecting the red jumper over to the IC . My ceramic capacitors take up 3 holes in the veroboard , instead of the 2 that Sue's capacitors use . That means that I need to run my channel selector wires (not soldered yet) from the hole between my caps . It's no big deal as there's plenty of space . The next time I'll use one extra row of veroboard to accommodate my caps . I should have time tomorrow to connect up the programmer and program it . More to follow .....

Re: I need someone to make me a one off pic.
Hi there cb4ever104 .
Nice work on the board. If my try at some point gets half as nice I`d be ok. with it..
Would I be needing something like this in a ss 360 if I`d want a +10 switch on it? I might have been dreaming (nightmare maybe) that I did read something about fitting in something into 360 to get a good +10 switch.. So sorry if I`m way off here..

Looks good from here. Can't remember if I've uploaded or emailed the programming files though, it's been a while...cb4ever104 wrote:I should have time tomorrow to connect up the programmer and program it
If you haven't had the instructions yet, don't attempt to program the device if you haven't done this before. One wrong instruction / fusebit setting can mean a dead micro.
I'll do a step by step instruction tomorrow and post it here around midday Oz time (it's almost 1AM now, I'm off to bed).
With a bit of luck, you should be up and running tomorrow...

Hi Sue .
I think you posted the instructions on page 2 of this thread . Let me know if they're not right . I'll wait for you to reply before continuing anyway .

Re: I need someone to make me a one off pic.
You could, but you would need to invert the switch, code it, and come up with a way to translate the 5V controller maximum voltage up to the 8V or 9V that the PLL uses, at least in the 360s we've seen here. For just a 10K shifter, that would be a bit of overkill.harakiri wrote:Hi there cb4ever104 .

A less complex way for the 360 would be a pair of 4008 full adder ICs, these can be wired to add anything from binary 1 to 128 (i.e. +10K to +1280K) and will work at 8V natively.

Is it a mkII SS360FM with PB-010XX pcb ?
If so then all you need to do for the +10khz is cut a trace on pin 9 of IC6 and run a +8V wire to it .

Touch wood it all goes OK, if anything doesn't go as expected don't panic though.

Re: I need someone to make me a one off pic.
Good evening Sammy.
Eh..Very good question,I will know sometime after Monday when I receive it. It is 360FM,that I know. hehe. Even if its very unlikely I`d be needing 10+ on that radio though, its ok. to know how is done. It seems to be same procedure as with the Grant, and that radio is way more likely to need it.
