Croughton <> Fairford radio check
Unexpected activity on the Croughton P25 net this morning --- a radio check with Fairford. I didn't know they could receive each other, though with power they use I probably shouldn't be surprised!

Using the path profiler, I would assume that they can't! Unless they have some very high towers for the antennas.

Possibly they have an ROIP link between the two sites?

Yeah, I assume it must be some kind of link. For a normal user I'd guess over the internet, but with the RAF it might be satellite or something

Re: Croughton <> Fairford radio check
The radio tower at Croughton is massive (51.993ºN 1.186ºW), you can see it on Google Streetview from the B road north of the base.
There's a similar tower at Fairford (51.689ºN 1.777ºW)
And the radio mast at the former USAF base at Upper Heyford (almost in line between Croughton & Fairford) is still there (51.929ºN 1.268ºW) …
