Was this the U.K. version of our NAVTEX by the USCG?

How do you like the Hoka product?

p.s. the coastal frequency list looks to be very helpful in the future. Thanks.

1 SITOR B is more or less the same has NAVTEX, although NAVTEX units normaly have more user functionality but the out going signal is the same
2 HOKA has a nice toolset if your really wanting to work the signal, but is supplied with too many modes which are no longer used, signal classifier aint nothing special
unless you know a little about the signal your listening too and can give it a helping hand, if your just wanting a signal decoder many freeware or cheaper packages
are just has good, any morse decoder you use will out perform hoka's cw module, or for stanag 4285 SIGMIRA (freeware) outperforms HOKA. If your looking for a
high end decoder/classifier have a look at krypto 500 or if you want more input wavecomm
this is a good read http://www.udxf.nl/Utility%20DXing%20-%20A%20Primer.pdf

The SIGMIRA version that I found won't run under Windows 7 64 bit. Yes, that Primer is good and uses Krypto500 for most of the examples. Of course, I don't have Krypto500.

Hi,

Navtex is just plain old FEC (Sitor-B) so any decoder from the dark ages forward should be able to decode it. Don't get hit up on all these flash names most of the modes are known by one maybe two - but decoder makers like to "expand" the list so it looks like they do more ... NAVTEX, AMTOR, TOR-B, it is all BS. It's proper name is "CCIR 476-4", mode A was for point to point and mode B is for broadcasts.

There are many free ones that work on Win 7 64bit. MultiPSK should be OK. All HOKA and Wavecom products work fine - but very overkill - http://www.frisnit.com/navtex/ should work as well.

I didn't know CCIR 476-4, so thanks. I knew what the B was for, but not the A designation, so thanks again.

YaND works very well and I also use FLdigi for Navtex. The Frisnit Navtex decoder is now my favorite. I've only been using it for several weeks. I usually run all 3 as each will get different characters during noisy conditions.

YaND works very well
If your good to go with yand you will also be good to go with YaDD
( yet another DSC decoder) from the same author has yand and it is free.
ive found it works very well even when noise levels are high, used in
conjunction with dx atlas both these packages will pinpoint all
heard land based stations on a map for you can be useful for
unnatended listening. YADD also gives you the mmsi numbers
which can be inputted on shipspotting.com for a nice colour
picture of received sea going vessels, if this rocks your boat
I have sigmira running on a win7 32 bit ok but dont know about 64bit :D

I never tried to run it in a compatibility mode and will do that today. Everyone seems to recommend Sigmira.
