What are the HF ISM bands used for?
I noticed here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISM_band#ISM_uses that there are some ISM bands in HF. What are the 6.78 and 13.56MHz bands used for? I know there's RFID in 13.56MHz but since these bands are set aside for ISM purposes I wondered what the other uses are and whether they're something you can listen to?

13.56 MHz has traditionally been used for dielectric heating of wood to dry it out, and I think curing rubber and plastics too.

NFC in smartphones uses 13.56MHz. One of the wireless power transfer standards (Google rezence) uses 6.78MHz for wireless charging of consumer portable devices.
ISM devices are not allowed to carry any communications information or they are no longer ISM - they would then be classified as SRDs & have to use the SRD frequencies instead. So you won't hear much of interest listening to them!

Well NFC carries communications information for starters...

NFC meets the power output levels of an SRD, which can also use some ISM frequencies (including 13.56MHz), i.e. it's classified as an SRD and can contain communications information. It's the higher power ISM applications which cannot contain communications information. Wireless power transfer falls into this category.

Yes but my point is not to write off the ISM bands...
