shortwave in the east midlands

whats the shortwave like in your area..i live in Derbyshire and just lately its been atrocious anyone else having difficulty receiving...i'm using a garex long wire.

I'm on the Notts/Derby border, reception has been poor lately, using random long wire as well about 30 mtrs inverted L

Thank God for that in a sorry sort of way :( ;) ..i thought it just me and my long wires etc...even the dongle is struggling this time..i have two long wires one i made
and the garex and it's useless to say the least...about May time was the last time i heard rescue in kinloss.

AM/MW radio (500 to 1800) yesterday was like there was a mobile phone next to the radio. 80M was bad,

Geomagnetic unrest at the moment hence the bad SW reception.

i did start to get something today on 40m and 80m but even the hams we're complaining today...so same as you...must atmospherics :(

Are you all still having trouble receiveing shortwave 'in Nottingham/Derby? I only got into radio earlier this year, so don't have any real idea of how it should sound here when reception is good. I have one of those roll-up wire antennas which makes a difference to the telescopic in-built one but still I'm not sure how to gauge this kind of thing. Sorry to ramble on. Cheers for info.

just the normal QRN now, changed to a better antenna and radio,got Icom 725 for working on HF jst thinking about getting a ATU now to make it tune better.
