Albrecht AE485S

Post by 26PR13 »

hi,
ive just bought one of these and was wondering what they are like compared to a Cobra 148. I have always been old skool when it comes to radios and just wondered how the Albrecht performs in relation to the uniden board radios?

also is it worth putting a power mic on the Albrecht and if so what ones work best? I have an astatic teardrop wired for my cobra and was wondering if it worth swapping to the albrecht?

any reports/suggestions on this radio would be excellent

P

Welcome to the site ;-)
(I'll sort out your TM membership shortly)

I ran the Magnum 257 which is the same as the 485. The teardrop is still the best mic around and will make a big diff to the 485 ave W out and of course the sound quality/depth.
I cant give you a comparison to the 148 but the 485/257 radio does work well, esp for its size.
Do you know if your 485 is RoHS compliant?

Restriction of Hazardous Substances.
Some of the 257/485's are built with this standard in mind. Sounds like a good thing eh. Well it aint it means all the good "real" solder used to build quality rigs is replaced by low grade light crap and the RoHS versions tend not to be as good on air & in build quality :(
But you may have a good one, best just to see how it is on air ;-)

It would normally be on the box or printed on the paperwork. Its not a great concern I was just curious, lol

There's more here: http://www.dti.gov.uk/innovation/sustai ... 29048.html
