Tyne and Wear Fire Service
Bad news. The Airwave engineers have been testing the new radio system the last couple of days, so looks like the T&W fire brigade will be digital very soon ( I was hoping to get at least one more Bonfire night out them before they went, but it don't look too promising Boo Hoo

RE: Tyne and Wear Fire Service
Expect to see all public service bodies go digital over the next few years. Followed shortly by the private sector.

Just got thinking tonight after a big incient in Shiremoor, North Tyneside, are their handhelds still analogue? Didn't have the frequencies to hand when i was on scene

The handhelds, "Manpacks" I think they`re called are still analogue but you would need to be really close by to hear them using them.michaeljames wrote:4 Years later...

Yep, they're still in use.... the guys from Hebburn were attending a fire at a house just behind ours and they were around for a good hour or so.... they were chatting on Channel 4.

Re: Tyne and Wear Fire Service
Ive only ever heard the on scene handhelds once since tetra was introduced but am looking forward to bonfire night. Before tetra, i used to love standing in the back garden and picking up the fire engines. I used to hear the sirens in the background. Its just a shame thats all over. Tetra = waste of money
