Re: CB Shops from back in the day
Don't know if it's been mentioned but my local cb shop was The CB Shack in West Derby Village in Liverpool. Owned by a guy called Cliff who used to do repairs too and it was a great shop. As I remember he moved not too far and his shop was open into the 90's I think.

Re: CB Shops from back in the day
I was a young fella on a working holiday in the UK in the 1990's.
While in Edinburgh, I went to Jaycee Electronics in Fife, catching
the train over the Forth Bridge to get there. Sadly I believe they
closed a few years ago.
Later in London, I went to a CB shop in Sidcup I found advertised
in a CB magazine.
The guy behind the counter reacted with shock/horror when I mentioned
SSB radios! They wouldn't blink an eye now.
The name of the shop is long forgotten, but I've always remembered Sidcup.
Anyone remember this shop, or the astonished owner?
This was.... 1995.

Happy to report that 'The CB Shack' is alive and well at Lymm services, just off the M6 where it meets the M56 near Warrington.
It was a Sunday when I passed, so was not open sadly, but good to see a proper CB shop still up-and-running, complete with big twig on the roof too

Good to see that they're still out there and open, just shows there must still be a demand for it!

Re: CB Shops from back in the day
If there was no demand for CB then development and production of cb's would dwindle away

I reckon a lot seem to just buy new ones to collect them like yourself Dave.lambrettadave wrote: ↑11 Aug 2023, 11:19 If there was no demand for CB then development and production of cb's would dwindle away
When you think how many are selling on fleabay and new radios selling out at Knights etc. It doesn't reflect the amount of people on air.
I also wonder/doubt whether CB will ever become popular again.
The modern society want plug and play no effort gadgets.
Sad state of affairs with little to no learning with subjects imo.

Not surprised due to overheads/cost of living these days.MrWeetabix wrote: ↑16 Aug 2023, 19:50 Well that's another one closing its doors. Knights move to online only

Amazon get away with online sales without paying tax
Sad times but good luck to Doug.
Top seller, not always the cheapest but trusted and decent.

Hard agree. Far better than throwing your money at jokers/chancers like PJ Box/NoCanDo etc

Re: CB Shops from back in the day
I was down at Lymm again the other week and can report the shop was fully open and well-stocked. Mostly with stuff for our truck-driving brothers and burly sisters, but with a good choice of radios and accessories, not just for mobiles.MrWeetabix wrote: ↑10 Aug 2023, 11:00 Happy to report that 'The CB Shack' is alive and well at Lymm services, just off the M6 where it meets the M56 near Warrington.

Re: CB Shops from back in the day
so seeing as im from preston there used to be a little cb shop in the town called bottle openers and you went through the main shop and into the interesting part in the back , it was like an alladins cave with cb stuff hanging from the walls and ceilings that was back in the 80's all good stuff
