And according to papers released today an extra 10% or so added to it would come from EU country to non EU (electronics and transmission devices)delboyonline wrote: ↑12 Mar 2019, 17:01Price is certainly the biggest threat to the success of this radio.
President always seem to ask to much and in the age of very cheap Chinese radios (most of which can outperform president's radios), asking a premium price just won't fly.
Let's be honest, the radio is not worth more than £200(that's being generous to the President name), if they bung it on sale for £199 it would probably attract the attention of a good few operators. However setting a price in line with a second hand Yaesu or ICOM is not going to end up with them flying off the shelves!
I hope (I think) that this will be a really good SSB radio, the US version has been out for nearly 3 years so they should have worked out any problems. The US version of the radio has had some good feedback as well but one main difference is that you can pick up the US version for under £140 equivalent.... The UK price could easily be TWICE that
£200 Remember all work carried out in EU with EU staff that ain’t cheap (check French salaries for engineers) So it’ll be around a long time to earn back it’s investment.
Difference is this: Chinese Radios split CRT, Avanti, KPO, Maas, Acquerio, Kenwood (Fake) Comtex and others so cost split multiple times as many as 10 times
President is split 1 way but everyone knows it.
USA Version is as you know completely different except front case, sides and back.
The radio isn’t specific to UK as I’m sure you know nobody has ordered anything in UK yet where as over 5000 are ordered in Germany, Poland, France, Spain and all around (source internet) so guess wont be quickly in UK and as you correctly say it’ll be over £200 plus add whatever tax is added if no deal Brexit.
But most important of all will it work well? And the answer is absolutely who knows as Grant II initial life was poor with weird noises etc and fake mike key syndrome
