Albrecht 2990 super radio ss301 handheld ssb audio

I recently got hold of a super radio ss301 ;(albrecht2990 ) for a play about on hills etc .I have done the anti jitter audio mod with a 1mf tantalum cap and a 10k resistor but it still warbles like a canary on ssb tx even with mic gain right down .Has anyone successfully modified on if these to actually be usable on ssb or are they just a lost cause and destened to be a fm am handheld with ssb Rx as that's all it is really

does it still warble on an external 12v supply? I suspect it might be to do with an inadequate voltage source

Yes I'm using a 50 amp PSU with a 10amp cig plug outlet using the Midland battery iliminator .So supply voltage and current should be well beyond whats needed for this handheld

Sorry, reading on dumbphone. So you have a voltage drop somewhere. I would measure it on mainboard under load.

had 1 in with the same warble did the mods listed and was better, was a few years ago and was the newer version that was ment to be ok .....my ass was ok, reduced mic gain and stiffened up the vco supply got it sounding better.
going from memory and i am like a fish ..... i added an extra cap same value 47uf i think to the supply of the vco but there was no room to add it so i added it on the regulator end by the 2 filter caps ... wasnt for the faint hearted.
sent it to my m8 jan in thailand and he says it works great.
these radios are just crap

The handheld radio is dog **** awful warble on audio and awkward to use
