Motorola as a DMR Scanner

Post by 2wayfreq »

Hi,
Just curious if anyone has successfully configured a Motorola MotoTrbo radio to say, listen to Shopwatch without needing an ID? Where, you can set it to receive "Anything" on the particular Freq, Talk Group ID, Time Slot and C-Code? What settings did you use?
Or, is it better to just get an Anytone DMR radio?

Thanks

It won't work like a scanner unless it had promiscuous mode built into the radio which it doesn't but the anytone does have that feature so ideal for you !

Be aware, the Anytone will receive any Mototrbo/DMR signal, unless they are encrypted or are using RAS on a CAP+ system..

Aaah, I see. Looks like I'll have to go the Anytone route. Thank you kindly for the replies!

I have the anytone radio 868 radio. If you put the digital monitor switch on and set it to any CC and any ID then you can enter a frequency and press scan button then it will pick up DMR frequencies and decode the audio.
I'm well happy with the radio.

Hi you can use for example a Motorola dp3400 radio and once loaded up with the correct freqs,cc,slots etc all you have to then do is ensure one of the side buttons next to the ptt is programmed to 'scan' so once pressed it scans through the stored freqs just like a scanner would and with it being a professional radio you will find better quality such as sensitivity etc.

the point me made is he wanted it to be used as a scanner where he could search for frequencys so he would need promiscuous mode built into the radio so the anytone tick's all his boxes .

Without a scanner - the correct freqs,cc,slots etc - is the problem for most people..

Yes i have notice more using RAS and Basic Encryption since the birth of the cheap DMR handys that will work without knowing the TG/CC/SL. Makes it so easy for Joe Bloggs to go shoplifting.
