Re: CB Uk before and after being made legal
I cover most of East, West and North Somerset in my job, so I've probably been close to your location at some point then. I wouldn't be able to stick a CB radio in my van though!
I doubt I'd reach you from Nailsea where I live though, as I only have a very low-level Antron and I'm surrounded by hills. I can just about hear Bristol and some of South -West Wales across the bridge.

Yeah bit of a reach, when ever I use my cb it's usually when ever I'm setting someone's up for them (I work with 4x4's all day and sometimes have customers ask me to set up a cb for them), or if I ever have free time I sometimes go and sit on a hill and see what I can hear haha

That's the best way.
I used to sit on top of the Lickey Hills between Birmingham and Bromsgrove in my Mk1 Escort, with my trusty Amstrad 901 and twin-coiled Modulator. Could get 40-50 miles most evenings when the over-crowded channels died down.

Re: CB Uk before and after being made legal
Around here the old AM was very popular and we had some good shops like the CB Cabin in Brierley Hill and Tar Aerials in Ambelcote. I had my first rig in early 81 and enjoyed every minute of it. When they made it legal it took a lot of the fun out of it. I've still got a couple of FM rigs but I haven't used them for years.

I bought my Uniden 200's 5-tone beep from the CB Cabin. I lived in Frankley at the time so was only a 20min drive away.
Did you ever visit "Square Wheels" in Rednal, at the bottom of the Lickey Hills?

Just went for a quick drive up on a hill to see if I could hear anything in my area, all FM channels dead... SSB was alive though haha

Re: CB Uk before and after being made legal
I think just the standard like 40 channels ones are like I said before, used by like lorry drivers and off roaders etc. You think what's someone who goes driving round greenlanes going to want with a radio that operates on 10 and 11m haha

What do they use them for anyway? Do they shout "Sh** , I'm stuck in a big puddle/hedge/pothole etc, someone give us a tow out will ya?" on them????

Re: CB Uk before and after being made legal
There is still uk fm traffic on 19 depending on where in Scotland you are. There's farmers and truck drivers about as well out of the towns.
Kill em all and let god sort them out.
