Hi.. I've just been given a Baofeng UV-5R+. Found frequency's for the shop watch of Gloucester - 165.1875 169.9875
I programmed them into the radio via CHIRP but not hearing a thing. Any ideas or help out there ?
I ONLY WANT TO LISTEN NOT TRANSMIT.

Re: Gloucester Shopwatch
They could be on 165.7875 which is their pubwatch but under a different ctcss code.
Try it out, I know I would
Make sure you set tone in RX-CTCS menu 11

You won't need any tones if you're just earwigging.hamtrektng wrote:They could be on 165.7875 which is their pubwatch but under a different ctcss code.

Ok so I'm totally new to all this... Had a look at the ctcss function, that gives me the option to turn it on and then gives me options of 67.0hz to 254.1hz. What do need to set the ctcss to ? I am hearing what sounds like radio traffic in the form of like a buzzing sound... Any more help would be great

Re: Gloucester Shopwatch
As Admiral said, you won't want to use the CTCSS tones for scanning, really.
They're there to filter stuff out, not give you more. Useful only when there are two signals on the same frequency and you only want to hear one.
The buzzing could be many things: a weak signal, a transmission in a mode you can't decode, interference, all sorts.

I think I read somewhere that Gloucester Shopwatch are MotoTRBO digital.....it sounds like this: http://www.sigidwiki.com/wiki/Digital_M ... adio_(DMR). And they should be on 165.7875 not 165.1875.

Re: Gloucester Shopwatch
Thanks for the info guys... So if they have now switched to using dmr radios would the solution be to buy another radio such as Retevis RT3 Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) ? Would I then be able to eavesdrop lol ?

Only if they haven't got 'Privacy' encryption enabled. Most of the time they use Basic. I would buy a RT8 (more rugged and has IP67 water-resistant material)
