interference
not sure if this is the correct place to post this but anyway... upgraded my old pc (10 year old ) to a new i7 desktop an led monitor . the problem is it causing massive interference to my scanner . especially on uhf for some reason . any ideas of a fix? or what part in the new computer would be the cause .ie psu , hard drive etc. thanks alot in advance ..

I get issues when connecting devises to USB ports due to cheap unshielded cables.
If nothing is connected to USB ports then the PSU is the obvious place to start followed by the Monitor and Graphics card.

Must add, it usually easy to tell if its the monitor, just disconnect it.
If it's the GFX card then listen for noise on the radio matching what is appearing on the screen. I.E. as graphics appear in a game the noise will increase.

brillant andy .it was the hdmi lead causing it!!!. everything is fine with the vga cable . i take it i need a better hdmi cable then

I had a similar problem with VGA and ended up buying 5 new cables before finding one that was properly shielded and gave good video results along with zero interference. Unfortunately, neither cost or thickness nor the number of ferrites on the cable guarantees best quality so it really is a case of suck it and see. Power supplies are a similar story, cost alone doesn't guarantee the best result.
