I fancy giving this a go , not really sure where to start. ?
There is an APP for iPhone which decodes and encodes - removing the need for a computer - has anyone tried this ??

It works - but it’s a bit awkward tbh.
What do I need to do this properly?
I’ve been looking at various interfaces - what’s going to work best with it an Icom 703?

Yes , sort of.
The computer encodes and decoded what you type in and sends it through your radio and out through your antenna.

I use a PC some wires and a latching push on push off switch for the PTT.

No interface, no fancy fun and games.

for the total noob, its a system like RTTY, where the op sends pre typed text.

purists will say its a bit "rubber stamp", but it allows contacts over long distances with low power.

I tend to dip in and out....

another big advantage is that you can sit in a room with the XYL and she can't hear anything, while you're racking up a load of contacts!
