Testing continuity in antron 99
Needing a little more info please.
Antron 99 issue continues I have no continuity between the centre pin of the so 239 and the first section end metal coupling end for the second section to screw in..
Had tested the base section and the centre pin has continuity to the alloy base pole and the outer shield thread of the so239loose plug also.
Looks as if it's totally knackered , anyone have experience of what the fault may be before I try take it all apart or destroy it even.

Re: Testing continuity in antron 99
Thank you Chris. I'm not that technical but will read it .sources gem.
I just don't get it ,the radios coax all have insulation from the feed and plugs.
Yet the antron has continuity between centre pin of the So239 on base and the outer of it too.
I just don't understand it .
I would have thought that would short the output in the radio.
Scratch head job.

Center pin and shield is shorted for DC with coil. That's why DMM shows continuity.
Radiating element have capacitor is series - no pass for DC, DMM shows open line.

Re: Testing continuity in antron 99
Ok Chris thank you for explaining it to me.
Very surprising I would never have considered it feasible.
The second section obviously has continuity between ends .
I would never have guessed the base section shouldn't have continuity from so239 to opposite end of radiating element on to metal coupling for second section.
Thanks Chris ,again you saved me a head ache and more work.
Appreciated

Second and third section is just a wire in fiberglass tubing. If no continuity I would worry

Forgot to say...before whacking it up, ensure you wrap some self-amalgamating tape around the joints, starting from the bottom upwards when spiralling it. It'll help to stop the joint threads corroding so easily and also stop the joints coming loose with wind/vibration if they're taped nice and tightly

Re: Testing continuity in antron 99
Wasn't too hard, placed antron horizontal to save and swarf going down as I drilled.
Added, length, pulled through and 're glued with epoxy.
Their was some kind of rubber o ring in it too.
Once soldered ,tested all fine.
Yes yes yes lol, I taped it up as you suggested to protect the glue and water ingress.all joints even top and bottom of the threaded swr section.
I did such on my original too after loads of coats of yacht varnish.
It is important to tape these joints v v well agreed.
May not be the best antenna but I love them.
Can't wait to get a imax sometime the 5/8 will be far superior.

Re: Testing continuity in antron 99
I bought a £20 Imax but discovered it was so long (good thing), that there was no way of disguising it as I have my Antron. The extra 6ft would've stuck out like a sore thumb and there's all sorts of covenents on the house here.
You're not even allowed a shed or greenhouse any bigger than 6ft by 4ft and I've heard the council use Google Earth to check out reports of any infringements.
I let my 30ft Lellandii conifers bush right out after topping them, so they cover nearly all of my 16ft by 8ft shed hidden underneath them lol!
Glad you got the Antron sorted
