Re: Chip switch for Lincolns
i think your way is the best way to go m8 ,just need a more plug and play version some how . remove the chip install a socket and plug your board in a few loose wires to atatch and jobs done. time, demand, cost and "is it woth it" need to be factored in .

Why invest money for a such a poor performance chickenbander anyway?
RF circuits can't handle wide bandwidth, scanner or memory you can have with original processor, no need to replace.

Looking at chipswitch board the 8V regulator is looking corroded????
Might still be ok but looks like damp may be an issue?
Will still fetch money cus of what it is though.

Re: Chip switch for Lincolns
The bids on that are going to go potty. The Chipswitch is very desirable, but the condition of the radio and the fact it's boxed will help push the price higher. The Collector wrote: ↑20 Jan 2019, 21:49 There ya go:

Re: Chip switch for Lincolns
Those radios are very rare here in Oz, we see one about once every two years. The other factor would be selling to end users who might attempt to install it with an auto parts store soldering iron and blame you for supplying faulty goods when they kill their radio.cb4ever104 wrote: ↑22 Jan 2019, 12:45 This might be something that Sue (Ibcomms) might be interested in .
These days, it would be done by designing a daughter board the size of the original controller IC and fitting it with a common and easily obtained SMT MCU such as an 8 or 32 bit AVR. Something like this, but without all the headers:
The ATmega2561 MCU used on that board will run almost any radio and costs about AU$10 in tray quantities.
But it comes down to the economics. It would take 10 to 20 hours work to design the board and write / debug / test the firmware. If we were based in Europe it just might be viable - we would need to sell at least 50 to cover the development time needed...

Re: Chip switch for Lincolns
Don't think it would take very long to reach 50 sales Sue . There's still a big demand for these . You'd probably get 50 orders just from this site alone .

Re: Chip switch for Lincolns
I'll have a closer look at whats involved next time we get one of those radios (or a HR2510) in. Could be a while though, they are rare here and the owner might not be too willing to let us turn theirs into a development unit...
