Any ideas please i have a rci 2995 dx with a very lazy needle ??

Put some grease on it.
[Joke mode off] Take a signal generator and set s-meter according to specs.

Have you tried turning the right VR to adjust the meter,slacking off small screw on meter slightly ?

Google coppertalk 2995dx signal meter,common problem for these radios,hope this helps.
Plenty are talking worldwide on 27.555 usb,
Some are too far up their own @rse to admit it,
Many happen to know otherwise dx-ing test free,
Showing a complete lack of respect for the law.

Solution is really simple. Replace D14 with any germanium diode. Recalibrate s-meter. Gonna improve a lot.
